Savannah Sacred Harp Singers

Old-time songs sung powerfully

Welcome!                                                                                                        We are a diverse group of singers who meet regularly in Savannah, Georgia, to fellowship and to sing from The Sacred Harp, an eclectic songbook first printed in 1844.  We invite you to join us and learn more about our music.

OUR NEXT SINGING IS SATURDAY,  MAY 13th

Please join us at Skidaway Island UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah

We will sing from 2:00-4:00pm.

WHAT IS SHAPE NOTE SINGING?

"If you take American folk melodies, blend them with the harmony of medieval vocal music, add a driving rhythm and turn up the volume, you have an approximation of what shape note singing sounds like." - Hal Kunkel, Pennsylvania Sacred Harp Singer

We are members of the Savannah Traditional and Early Music Network

A network of Savannah groups and individuals devoted to the study, performance and enjoyment of traditional and early music.
